Sell your harvest at auction

Request an estimation

Auctions give producers the best result. The largest number of buyers compete for each lot, which secures the highest price — and the best return for your work.

Services for producers

Harvest estimation

By estimating a representative sample from each lot, we give you an estimate of the current international market price for your harvest. As auctioneers, we track the prices paid in Hong Kong and Japan for every combination of size, shape, surface quality and colour of South Sea pearls.

Sorting & polishing

To get the best possible price, a harvest must be well sorted by size, shape, surface and colour. Mixed batches of high- and low-quality pearls sell for one low average price. Belpearl can sort and polish your pearls so that every single pearl achieves its best possible outcome.

Finance & advance payment

If you cannot wait until the auction for payment, Belpearl can advance a percentage of the estimated value to your nominated account on signing the auction contract — so you can take your harvest to auction for the most competitive price while covering immediate needs.

Cataloguing & viewing

Every lot is weighed, counted and catalogued with its producer and origin recorded. Buyers examine the pearls in person during the viewing days in Hong Kong, and a PDF catalogue is published for each sale.

Export & logistics

Our auction coordinators assist with the export documentation required at origin and arrange secure shipping and handling to our office in Hong Kong, so your harvest arrives safely and in time for the sale.

Farm consultancy

To get the best return on investment, pearl farms should regularly check that their operational processes align with best practice. Ask us about a farm assessment and the possibilities to bring you a better return on investment.

The auction process

1

Estimation & contract

Our auction coordinator provides an initial estimate of value based on a representative sample. If you agree, you receive an auction contract that sets out the terms and conditions for working together and records the details (weight, pieces) of the pearls submitted.

Please note this is an estimate only. Pearl prices are market-driven and regularly subject to change. The final price is determined only after the auction is complete.

2

Advance downpayment

Upon signing the contract, Belpearl can transfer a percentage of the estimated value to your nominated account.
3

Sorting & cataloguing

If your pearls have not yet been sorted, we sort them into lots by size, shape, surface and colour. You then receive a catalogue of your lots and the date and time of the upcoming auction.
4

Shipping & handling

Our coordinators assist with the export documentation required at origin and arrange secure shipping and handling to our office in Hong Kong.
5

Viewing & auction day

Your lots are displayed to buyers during the viewing days. We run a silent auction: at the close of bidding, Belpearl counts the bids and prepares a private report of the bids for your lots. You are welcome to come to Hong Kong and witness the event.
6

Auction report & decision

Once the report is presented, you review the bids for your lots, with consultation and recommendations from Belpearl to assist you. Decisions are needed within a few hours.
7

Post auction & payment

Belpearl handles billing, shipping and payment collection from the buyers, typically within two to three weeks. Once all payments are received, the sales commission and any pre-approved costs incurred on your behalf (including advance payments) are deducted, and the balance is wired to your nominated bank account.
